I left off my last post with Nabila and Aly’s menhndi and pithi and now we’re on to Saturday’s festivities — their wedding weekend just held so much goodness it had to be split into two posts!

I’m going to go ahead and cast my vote that all weddings should incorporate a massive sparkly backdrop for photos — just one photographer’s opinion . . .
No lie, when we went home that evening I told James I was genuinely going to miss Nabila, Aly and their kind, hospitable families who we had spent portions of the last three days with.  That’s how great these people are and this experience was, that after a 13-hour day of shooting, I was sad to part ways with them.
Nabila and Aly, y’all are awesome and gorgeous and I think the world of you two. I wish you all the very best in your marriage together!

I really cannot put into words how much of a gift it was to me that Nabila and Aly trusted James a I with the documentation of their three day Indian wedding this October. At our initial meeting together I was up front that we had never photographed a full-blown Indian wedding before and wouldn’t be bringing any experience (in that sense) to the table, but that I was really excited at the prospect of taking on something entirely new. Then Nabila and Aly  said the magic words — they trusted us.
While my stomach was tied in knots of anticipation in the days leading up to these wedding festivities, I knew there would be something so refreshing, so invigorating in not playing the role of wedding coordinator  because I would literally not know what to expect to come next or even what it would look like. And it was.

Y’all, I really and truly don’t think I could possibly adore Nina and Cliffe any more than I already do.  And it’s not just because they didn’t laugh when a bird pooped on top of my head 15 minutes into the shoot (true story) or that Nina gave me home-made toffee at the end of this shoot — it’s that Nina and Cliffe are marked by an excitement for life, love for each other, and a refreshing sincerity in their words and actions. Where they are, those things are as well. There is nothing I enjoy photographing more than that.
Cliffe proposed to Nina with this intricate Ticket to Ride Board game that he made for her, so of course it made an appearance in their engagement session.
As they spent the majority of their relationship living in separate states, they have accumulated quite the collection of letters and mementos sent to and from the other over the years, so some reminiscing was in order as well.
Nina and Cliffe, being your engagement and wedding photographer makes my heart so happy. Thanks for being so awesome. Keep up the good work!
It was a good day in October when Shayla and Matt married each other — both in terms of the weather and because it’s clear that these two are just meant to be together.
The sun was shining brightly, but all morning I saw the other vendors (myself included) looking at the dark clouds in the distance and mention hopefully, “I hope the rain holds off.” Now, I’m no stranger to rainy day weddings, but this was my first opportunity to shoot at Villa Di Felicita in Tyler, Texas and I was just itching to use the beyond beautiful venue that Shayla and Matt had chosen to its full potential. As the mother’s were walking down the aisle I felt two teeny tiny drops of rain and braced myself for more to follow but none came. Shayla got to have the outdoor ceremony she wanted and we were able to use the beautiful outdoors for bride-groom portraits afterwards — wins all around!
I’m going to go ahead and say that overall these are among my favorite sets of wedding images from 2013. Enjoy.

Matt and Shayla, y’all truly were some of the nicest people to work with. In my book, that’s among the top compliments I can give. Thank you for that. Thank you for entrusting your carefully planned, long-awaited, breathtakingly gorgeous wedding day with us. We are just so honored to have been a part of it and wish you two so much sweetness in your years of marriage ahead.
