I shot an engagement session today. The couple laughed and laughed and laughed. The entire shoot.
I loved it.
Once I got in my car after the shoot was over, I caught a glimpse of myself in the rear-view mirror. Woof. “Now I know why they were laughing the whole shoot . . . ” The wind had blown my hair into a giant frizz-ball. The same wind had made my eyes water for the past hour and a half and left my make-up half on and half off.
All jokes aside, I loved shooting Emily and Logan’s engagements today. They’re so in love they probably didn’t even notice my windblown look.
This week is spring break and most people have been getting ready to sit back and relax but I’m just gearing up — I have five photo shoots this week. FIVE. I may or may not listen to Taylor Swift to pump myself up before shoots (don’t judge).
Get ready for lots and lots of blog updates. Happy spring break!
Meet Susan and Dale.
I might have a difficult time adding commentary to this post. Because when I look at these pictures, words don’t come to my mind. Just love. When I look at Susan I feel love and gratitude that the Lord has allowed such a wonderful woman to sweep into my life. And, because I know that Susan wouldn’t be the woman she is without Dale by her side these past seven (almost eight!) years, I feel that same gratitude toward him.
I use the phrase ‘sweep into my life’ because that is exactly what happened. The DeWoody’s are native Oklahomians to the very core but relocated to Texas a few years ago for Dale to attend UNT to get his Ph.D. Upon arrival in Denton, Susan looked for a way to get involved and wound up leading a bible study at the Baptist Student Ministry I attended with some dear friends of mine. From that semester on, she was in our lives to stay.
Susan and Dale chose to do the first half of the shoot on the UNT campus because it held meaning for both of them — Dale is a teaching fellow here while working on his Ph.D and Susan worked here for a few semesters as a student advisor.
As natural as the two of them look in these pictures, you’d think they got pictures taken all the time, right? Nope. I practically had to beg Susan to let me take their pictures. They needed them DESPERATELY!! The last pictures they had taken together were their engagement pictures!!! That was almost EIGHT YEARS AGO!!!
We stumbled upon this little loading dock and Susan and Dale worked. it. out.
Fweet, fweet, fweet.
It’s just that y’all both look really awesome. It’s probably because y’all are awesome.
As much as it kills me to convert that beautiful red hair to black and white, Susan looks beautiful either way.
And Mr. DeWoody certainly doesn’t look too bad himself.
After some time on campus, we headed back to their lovely home to snag some shots of their pets, Macy and Josie the one-eyed attack cat.
Don’t they have the sweetest home?
(Macy is the favorite child — don’t tell Josie)
Susan, you are gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.
Susan and Dale — you did it!! You finally have some pictures together and I hope they capture even an ounce of the love that is flowing through and out of the DeWoody household.
Meet Robyn and Cole.
You know how some people just exude fabulousness? That’s Robyn.
Ok, how do I say this? My first impression of  Cole was not as the type of guy who can be openly lovey-dovey. He comes off as a guy who would be pained by such displays of affection.
Not. with. this. girl. I can just see his initial dispassionate demeanor melt around Robyn. That exterior layer hits the ground in a pool of love and dove.
Robyn informed me that this is how they sit on the couch and watch movies and therefore it must be replicated in their engagement pictures.
See? Fabulousness.
Loooooooooooooooooook at how he loooooks at herrrrrrrrrr. Doesn’t it just kill you? Never, ever forget how to look at her like that, Cole.

Let me talk straight with you — I am incredibly pleased with a lot of pictures that came out of this shoot. But this one above is one of my favorites.
Now, we’ve already talked about the way Cole looks at Robyn. But now watch how Robyn looks at Cole.
Go ahead and let it stop your heart for a bit.
Can I just tell you how this picture happened? I was positioning Robyn and Cole when Robyn looked back at me for a second and I immediately said, “Stop. right. there.” Forget the original pose — this was too good to pass up.
Throughout the shoot I kept noting to myself, “THAT shot was the ‘hero-shot.'” Usually a shoot will bring a definitive “hero-shot” — the shot that stands above all the rest. But with these two I would keep shooting and find myself saying, “No, I guess THIS one is the ‘hero-shot’ . . . or maybe it’s this one?” There were SO many take-away shots from this one. At the risk of sounding cheesy, it was like magic unfolding in front of my eyes over and over. Robyn and Cole — you are breathtaking together.
Dear blog readers —
Brace yourselves. For the sassiest pregnant woman you’ve ever seen.
With that said, meet Kelly.
Kelly and her husband, Nick, met me at The Milestone for the very first maternity shoot I’ve done. Excitement!

Kelly, we would all really appreciate it if you’d leave some fabulousness for the rest of the world. Thankssssss.
And Nick’s working it right along with her. Good job, guys. Teamwork fierceness.
Kelly, it’s just that you’re gorgeous. I think that a lot of it has to do with how your eyes sparkle and you laugh a lot. Even when Nick is telling you to put your belly away.
Kelly was telling me that at this point, they’ve narrowed down the list of potential baby names to four. One thing they can agree on though is that the baby is, in fact, a boy.
Again with the fierceness, you two! Did y’all take classes or something?
Here it comes again. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Â
Also, if you can’t handle any more sassiness, you may have to shield your eyes for this next picture . . .
Dear Nick and Kelly, I think y’all are great. And especially great together. And I suspect the greatness will be exponentially greater with “boy” added to the White family soon. Hopefully he’s been listening from the womb when y’all go to that fierceness class of y’all’s.
Thank you for letting me document this sweet season for you.
