Happy Friday, friends!
You know what is super-fun to do on a Friday afternoon? Reliving a bit of Hadly and Adam’s November 2011 Palace Theatre wedding day in downtown Grapevine.
WHO’S WITH ME?!?!
Their ceremony was literally on stage. In a theatre. Red curtain and all. I loved it.
And Hadly’s J. Crew wedding dress? I’m going to have to say that it might very well be the loveliest wedding dress I have ever seen in my life. I adored everything about it and it certainly didn’t hurt that the girl wearing it was just as sweet as the dress itself.
Adam looked quite dapper in his wedding day attire as well!
When Hadly, Adam and I first got together to discuss their wedding I knew that this was going to be a very special experience for me as a wedding photographer.
They are both artists, and therefore highly valued photography. They told me of their plans for an intimate theatre wedding that they wanted focused almost more around friends and family that themselves (because that’s just the type of people Hadly and Adam are). They told me they desired photos with a photojournalistic flare and more than anything they wanted me to have freedom to go for shots that I might have been too afraid to take at other weddings in fear that I might miss a standard shot I knew I was supposed to get.
This was an interesting thought as I went into this wedding day. Yes, there was freedom in it, but also the pressure of delivering something extra-especially-special. Going into the day I wondered if I would choke or thrive in this freedom.
My hope is that I thrived.
Sure James and I still shot the classic shots a wedding photographer needs to get — the processional, the vows, the family portraits — but I loved knowing that Hadly and Adam trusted my intuition more than they desired all of the go-to wedding day shots.
Their ceremony was short and sweet but also filled with some of the most poetic, beautiful vows I’ve heard to this day.
Pssh.  Artists.  Am I right?

I always love, love, love images taken in the freshest, most dear moments directly following being pronounced husband and wife.
After portraits we headed into the sweetest of receptions, filled with first dances between a new husband and wife, heartfelt toasts by brothers and sisters, and lots of conversations amongst friends. You could feel the intimacy and genuine enthusiasm for Adam and Hadly throughout the small room.
Hadly and Adam were sent off with chorused applause and many warm smiles.
Thank you, Hadly and Adam for letting us document your lovely wedding a year ago next month. We treasured it.
Also, someone please hire me to shoot a wedding at the Palace Theatre because I cannot wait to shoot there again.
Hello blog readers! In case some of you have missed some of my most recent posts let me explain — I am currently posting work that is juuuuust about a year old. Crazy, I know. I explain why at the beginning of this post but I can try to address this decision quickly again here too.
I got really busy last year. Like, reeeeeeally busy. I was an over-zealous first year photographer and took on a TON of photo shoots and weddings and ended up leaving exactly 0.000 % of my day for blogging . . . or sleeping/eating/being a human/etc. You get the idea? I wouldn’t call this season of my life my finest hour, but I did take a LOT of photos, meet a LOT of awesome people and learn a LOT about running a photography business. I’m so thankful for this season of life that yes, stretched me so thin (figuratively . . . haha), but also taught me so much.
And so I’m blogging it, just bits and pieces on my way to catching up to recent work. My editing style has changed with time, but it’s the same JZP eye that took these photos back in November 2011 that also takes the ones I shoot now in October 2013. Come along for the blogging ride! Soon I will also be posting recent work on the blog again, but for now please visit the JZP facebook “like” page to view album previews from my most recent weddings and sessions.
Now up is the darling Felthous family.
Lisa did such an AMAZING job styling all the outfits for each family member for the shoot — she even MADE all of the girls hair pieces. Lisa, I applaud you.
Sister love is such a sweet love to document.
I never ever shoot a family session without taking a few photos of just mom and dad. Because what starts a family is just two crazy kids in love and that’s important to remember too!
Hope you enjoyed just a few of my favorite images from the Felthous session last year!
Even though this engagement session ended up having to be rescheduled to be on Thanksgiving Day last year (long story, my fault) and even though Brett ended up having to miss a portion of his football game to oblige, I am especially pleased with how the images turned out. Here are just a few of my favorites from the random Thanksgiving Day engagement session of 2011 . . .
While I was not available to photograph their wedding day this past January, I wanted to wish the two of y’all a very belated congratulations! Happy first year of marriage, Kelsi and Brett.
Once upon a time there was an a-DOR-able couple who lived in New Braunfels.
And once upon a time they hired an excited, first-year photographer to shoot their engagements (the couple in the water) and also come out to shoot their wedding. (Holla at my girl Neely for referring me to them when she wasn’t available!)
Casey and Grady were another pivotal couple for the beginning of Jillian Zamora Photography. They came in early (Casey had her signed wedding contract in my inbox by January 2011) and they believed in me. Here’s an excerpt from an e-mail Casey sent me back in April last year leading up to their engagement session:
“Let me preface this email by letting you know that I started to type this: “Here are a few sample photos we like. What do you think about these?,” and then decided to look at Neely’s site and then at yours.
Such a simple e-mail meant SO MUCH to me and solidified how much I would adore Casey and Grady even before I met them.
And then I met them and it was all downhill for my heart from there — I was in love with this couple.
Grady was waiting to see his bride for the first time . . . and here she comes . . .
Haha, I adore watching groom’s faces right as they know the first look is about to happen — such sweet anticipation!
Haha, most first looks don’t have an audience, but this one did!
Oh, stop it, Casey. You are just TOOCUTE.
You guyyyyyyys, I just love love. Especially love under pretty South Texas trees.
Especially with people who smile like this when they’re together.
Seriously you two — bride-and-groom is a good look for you guys.
I love that first looks allow for opportunity on the wedding day for one-on-one bride-groom time before the hustle and bustle really gets started AND for naturally-lit bride-groom portraits at a low-pressure pace. I’m so appreciative of this time that Casey and Grady scheduled into the day for just that and I certainly hope the resulting photos are reflective of it.
And here comes the flower girl, with bridesmaids in tow . . .
Awaiting us at the venue was SUCH a darling ceremony set up. Darling, darling, darling.
I could not get enough of this guy’s “Team Frank” trucker hat made especially for the Frank wedding.
Everyone deserves a custom trucker hat for their wedding day.
I dare you to look at the above photo and tell me you DON’T love Casey.
Homegirl is totally rocking out to “Firework” in the above photo.
Goodness gracious, how to wrap up the Casey-Grady-wedding blogpost?
Thank you for believing in me.
I’m SO GLAD y’all are married.
Also, I think y’all are awesome.
